Dr. Stanger's Personal Story

I was born and raised in Long Beach, New York.  As a child I had asthma and suffered from frequent respiratory infections that continued throughout my adolescence.  I received allergy shots, daily medication, an inhaler and was given antibiotics several times a year for respiratory illness.  While in Junior High I developed a neck problem that would flare up and interfere with my participation in various sports I played for my school (if not for lack of size, speed and talent I would have been the next Michael Jordan!)  Back then the treatment was to immobilize the neck with a soft cervical collar and use heat. . . ouch!  For years I suffered with these periodic episodes.  In 1983 while in college at SUNY Binghamton, I experienced and acute case of asthmatic bronchitis that landed me in the hospital.  After being released, my neck was bothering me from the severe strain I put on my muscles during the acute asthma attack.  My brother, who was starting chiropractic college at the time, suggested I see a chiropractor.  Well not only did my neck feel better, but astonishingly I then went ten years without an antibiotic, stopped taking allergy shots and daily medication and only used the inhaler when symptoms developed which was greatly reduced.  That’s when I decided to become a chiropractor!  To help people feel better naturally just by using one’s hands is truly a rewarding experience.

Since then, I have learned from the most respected individuals in my field including: Terry Yochum whose textbook “Essentials of Skeletal Radiology” is a benchmark for the profession; Dr. James Cox who is founder of Cox Technique flexion-distraction and spinal decompression protocols; Dr. Jeffrey Cohen founder of Nimmo Educational Foundation and chiropractor for many of the Pittsburgh Steelers dating back to the 1975 champions until today; and Dr. Jack Barnathan founder of New York Strength, Inc., who received  the Presidential Council On Physical Fitness and Sports Certificate Commendation and chiropractor to Olympic Gold Medalist Dara Torrence who cited Dr. Barnathan in her autobiography as “One of the people I couldn’t have done it without.”  I continue to strive to learn and base my work on the freshest scientific resources available.

With almost twenty years of experience, I have developed professional relationships with many members of the medical community.  I have earned their respect by referring to their offices patients who cannot be helped through chiropractic care and by providing expert care to the patients they refer to my office.  These interdisciplinary relationships are quite rare and a source of pride for me that enables me to emphasize a very simple philosophy – the patient comes first.

On a personal note, I am happily married to my college sweetheart and the father of two teenage boys.  I am a sports nut, a New York Ranger fanatic, avid fisherman, love music and love to make people laugh.

Looking forward to listening to you and caring for you in the future!
